Travel and transportation - Getting from the Orly Airport to Paris

What used to be the Paris region's main international airport after Le Bourget became obsolete, Orly is now used for charters and continental flights. Situated about 18 kms south of Paris, Orly has two passenger terminals, Sud and Ouest, served by trains, taxis and buses.

Priority is given here to what's fast, easy and readily available. If you know where you're going in Paris and not carrying tons of luggage, the RER/Metro is your best choice (and cheapest) - especially during rush hours when the roads are clogged. If not or your destination is not in Paris proper, a TAXI would certainly be more convenient.

The Air France Bus would very probably be your first choice if your destination is either the Gare Montparnase or Place des Invalides in Paris.  Air France also runs an express shuttle directly between CDG Airport and the Orly-Ouest and Orly-Sud airport terminals.  AF buses pick up at Orly South : gate L and Orly West : gate D

Airport shuttle minivans can be a reasonable alternative if traveling single and heavy with baggage or more than four persons. These carriers normally require that you reserve 2-3 days in advance.

Getting from Orly airport to the bateau Simpatico

Take the Orly-Rail shuttle bus connection to the RER station at Pont de Rungis/Aéroport d'Orly and transfer to the RER C line, Direction: PARIS which follows the Seine along the left bank into Paris stopping at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand, Gare d'Austerlitz, St Michel-Notre Dame, Musée d'Orsay, Invalides, Pont de l'Alma and then Champs de Mars-Tour Eiffel. Get off here and take the exit at the head of the train. RER map (C line is yellow)

After leaving the platform at the head of the train, taking the first exit up to street level will bring you onto the Quai Branly (photo at right - click to enlarge) with the Eiffel Tower in front of you and the Bir-Hakeim Bridge just behind you. Walking back towards the bridge and around the corner green to the right will bring you to the entrance of the Port de Suffren. (photo at left)
